Biography

Matthew Pavlov has devoted his legal career to chancery court practice and service to the courts of Jackson and George Counties. Through years of courtroom experience and Guardian ad Litem appointments, he has earned the trust of judges, attorneys, and families alike. His professional life reflects a commitment to fairness, careful preparation, and the faithful application of the law.

Raised in Ocean Springs, Matthew was shaped by the example of his parents, Paul and Theresa Pavlov, and his grandparents, Peter and Mary Pavlov and Harriet Lamburth. From them he learned the enduring values of faith, hard work, service, and personal responsibility. In his home and church, he was taught that we are stewards of the gifts entrusted to us and that those gifts carry both privilege and obligation. These principles — integrity, accountability, fairness, and a belief in right and wrong — have guided him throughout his life and legal career.

From an early age, those lessons manifested in service and discipline: volunteering in his community, working summer jobs, pursuing academic excellence, and competing in athletics. He watched his mother and grandfather devote countless hours to building the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy, and he observed the seriousness and compassion with which his father cared for his patients. Their example instilled in him the expectation that meaningful work requires effort, perseverance, and humility.

At the University of Notre Dame, Matthew’s sense of service deepened. Alongside the academic rigor and campus life that define the Notre Dame experience, he organized and prepared weekly dinners at a local halfway house. The relationships formed there broadened his perspective and planted early seeds for a career dedicated to serving others through the law.

Following graduation, he accepted a position at St. Patrick High School, where he taught church history and morality, coached junior high basketball, and served as an assistant football coach. Though teaching was not his ultimate calling, the mentors who guided him during that time reinforced lessons in leadership, accountability, and teamwork that continue to shape his professional life.

Law school followed — a decision driven by a desire for challenge and meaningful public service. With no prior exposure to the legal profession, he approached Tulane Law School with determination and curiosity. There, he distinguished himself academically and began clerking at the Denham Law Firm, where he was mentored by the late Earl Denham, a respected and tough litigator. Under Mr. Denham’s guidance, Matthew developed practical courtroom skills and gained early exposure to the demands and responsibilities of litigation.

Upon passing the bar, he quickly assumed substantial responsibility when senior attorneys departed the firm. In his first years of practice, he litigated matters in circuit, chancery, and federal courts, handling cases involving insurance disputes, business litigation, personal injury, federal administrative matters, family law, and both Mississippi and longshore workers’ compensation claims in bench and jury trials. These formative years required rigorous preparation and a disciplined approach to statutory and case law, strengthening the foundation of his legal practice.

In 2017, he established The Pavlov Law Firm. What began as a modest solo practice has grown into a respected family law firm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Through diligent preparation, steady advocacy, and a commitment to ethical practice, he has built a reputation for thoughtful counsel and effective courtroom representation.

During this time, he and his wife have raised their two daughters in Ocean Springs. They are members of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and are deeply rooted in the local community. Outside of his legal work, Matthew enjoys reading, playing guitar, fishing, running, and spending time with his family.

Throughout his career, Matthew has seen firsthand the profound impact judicial decisions have on families, businesses, and the broader community. He believes the role of a judge is not to advocate, but to listen carefully, apply the law faithfully, and treat every person who enters the courtroom with dignity and respect. Guided by integrity, discipline, and a deep respect for the judicial process, he seeks to serve with fairness, impartiality, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law.
